Kremlin addresses prospects of agreement on Azerbaijani gas supply to EU via Ukraine
Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov did not make any predictions regarding the prospects of a potential agreement on gas supplies between the European Union and Azerbaijan through Ukraine's gas transmission system (GTS), Paralel.Az's Moscow correspondent reports.
Kremlin spokesperson referred to this as commercial talks.
“These are commercial talks. Both you and I are aware of the situation the President spoke about at the press conference he held in Kazan. A question was raised about the gas transmission agreement expiring at the end of this year. Considering that Ukraine has already refused to extend this agreement, I cannot say now what will happen and how the supply will be ensured,” Peskov said, as he commented on Bloomberg’s report about unnamed gas buyers from the EU reportedly being close to signing a deal for the supply of 12-14 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan’s SOCAR through Ukraine’s gas transmission system after December 31.
