Putin: Use of nuclear arms only as 'exceptional measure'
Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized on Tuesday that deploying nuclear weapons would be Russia's "exceptional measure" to ensure its national security, Paralel.Az reports.
"I would like to emphasize that we are not going to get involved in a new arms race. However, we will maintain nuclear forces at the necessary sufficiency level," Putin added during the training session for strategic nuclear deterrent forces. "Russia confirms its fundamental position that the use of nuclear weapons is an extreme, exceptional measure to ensure state security."
Concurrently, Putin unveiled the enhancement of strategic deterrent forces to overcome missile defense systems, the introduction of nuclear-powered submarines into the navy and the modernization of long-range strategic bombers.
