Azerbaijan was represented at the 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action, Paralel.Az-Economics reports.
The 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action was held in Washington city within the framework of the Spring Meeting held by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group.
The meeting was dedicated to the financing needs required for the implementation of the Nationally Determined Contribution (commitments taken by the world countries to reduce greenhouse gases) and the efficient organization of meeting these needs. In addition to the finance ministers of the Coalition member states, Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, and Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank, also participated in the meeting.
The Republic of Azerbaijan, which joined the Coalition as an observer in April of the current year, was represented at the mentioned meeting by Minister of Finance Samir Sharifov and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, appointed president of COP29, Mukhtar Babayev. Speaking at the meeting, M.Babayev expressed gratitude to the Coalition for its active participation in the implementation of climate goals and called on the members of coalition to cooperate in holding COP29 successfully that will deliver an ambitious and fair climate finance goal.
Co-chairs of the coalition, the finance ministries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Indonesia, sent an invitation letter regarding Azerbaijan's joining the coalition. As the host of COP29, Azerbaijan intends to actively cooperate with the Coalition.
