Azerbaijan accords martyr status to 6 servicemen who went missing in Patriotic War
“Immediately after the signing of the tripartite declaration, the relevant government bodies of both sides carried out very serious search and investigation works in the area with the participation of the Russian peacekeeping contingent and the International Committee of the Red Cross,” Ismayil Akhundov, secretary of the State Commission on Prisoners and Missing and Hostaged Citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, head of the Working Group, told Paralel.Az in an extensive interview as an answer to “What work is carried out to find the 6 soldiers who went missing in the Patriotic War?” inquiry.
He said that even the wishes of the parents were considered and they were also involved in the search-research work. However, the conducted searches did not yield results and those persons were registered as missing persons in the State Commission: “By the requirements of the legislation, they have already been given the status of martyrs. Despite this, this issue has never fallen from the agenda and will not… Determining the fate of 6 people who went missing during the Patriotic War and 2 of our soldiers who went missing in the direction of Lachin after the Patriotic War is one of the main tasks facing us."
