West employs sanctions as a tool to exert pressure on elections: Georgian political scientist
“Unfortunately, some foreign actors try to intervene parliamentary elections in Georgia, penetrate internal political sphere of the country. The reason for these actions is that they have lost their impact levers for Georgia,” Zurab Kadaqidze, Georgian political expert told Paralel.Az.
“Unfortunately, as many politicians reported that the majority of opponents in the Georgian political sphere is “radical opposition” and they just deal with assumptions. These assumptions are not only political, but also economic and financial assumptions. Their behaviors on the eve of the elections are the samples for this. Today, we do not see that any Pro-West party hold the meetings in the regions, they are even slightly active in Tbilisi. However, we see that their owners try to participate in Georgia’s internal political processes by direct statements. Unfortunately, we are subjected to all of these, but we must respond adequately to it. I am sure that all this will end on October 26 and the people of Georgia will decide whether to be a sovereign country or a subject of some foreign country,” he noted.
He emphasized that statements about imposing sanctions on Georgian officials are absurd: "The issue of sanctions is quite absurd and unclear. These are pantomime sanctions, and we truly cannot understand it. Firstly, because they do not publish the list of those subject to sanctions. Secondly, they threaten that they will impose additional sanctions. We see statements from representatives of various governments and different actors about sanctions being imposed on Georgia, however, all of these are merely political statements, and they should only be understood as such. "As for real sanctions, I truly do not expect any such sanctions because Georgia fully complies with all international norms and acts in accordance with international rules. Sanctions could only be caused by the opposite of this. Therefore, Georgia does not deserve actual sanctions. The sanction statements we are seeing in this current situation will have no results, they are merely attempting to exert pressure on political processes. However, this will have no real effect either."
