Total number of landmine victims in Azerbaijan is 3429

 

After the tripartite statement was signed on November 10, 2020, 129,831 hectares of land have been cleared of mines during the demining activities carried out in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, said Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) at the briefing held on the occasion of April 4 - International Day of Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, Paralel.Az reports.

He said that during this period, 65,585 unexploded military ordnance (UXO), 31,919 anti-personnel mines and 19,070 anti-tank mines were found and neutralized: “In general, the number of landmine victims in Azerbaijan is 3429. 595 of them lost their lives. 357 are children and 38 are women out of 3429 victims. Since November 10, 2020, 350 people have been victims of mine explosions, 65 of them have died and 285 people have been injured. Out of 350 landmine victims, 247 people were killed or got injures on varying degrees as a result of explosions that took place outside the former contact line.”
