First lunar eclipse of the year begins

Today, the first lunar eclipse of the year has started, Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory told Paralel.Az.

This eclipse is the penumbral lunar eclipse. Since the Moon does not go into total shadow during this eclipse, the eclipse is not very noticeable.

The Penumbral Lunar Eclipse is observed in the eastern part of Australia, in South and North America, in the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Arctic and Antarctic, and in the western part of Europe.

The eclipse started at 08:53 and will end at 13:32. The maximum eclipse will be at 11:12. The eclipse will not be observed in Azerbaijan, as the Moon will be below the horizon.
