6 dead including 4 children in Ottawa mass shooting

Six people including four children were killed in a mass shooting inside a townhouse in the suburb of Ottawa, the capital city of Canada, late Wednesday night, local media reported on Thursday, Paralel.Az reports.

Calls to 911 started coming in at about 10:50 p.m., directing first responders to Berrigan Drive near Palmadeo Drive, a residential area close to two schools and about 15 kilometres south of Ottawa's downtown core, said CTV News.

Emergency responders found six people dead and one injured person in the house, who was taken to hospital, the report said, adding that the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed and the investigation continues.

A male, who police also haven't identified, was arrested at the scene, the report noted.

Ottawa police chief Eric Stubbs said investigators do not believe it to be a case of intimate partner violence and he was quoted as saying that the shooting will greatly impact the city of Ottawa.

However, the police said there is no ongoing risk to public safety, CTV News reported.
