Russian Ambassador met with Taliban representatives

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov met with representatives of the Taliban (banned in Russia) in Kabul. This information was confirmed by the diplomatic mission. An embassy spokesman told RIA Novosti that talks were being held with a Taliban representative.
According to the agreement reached during the negotiations, the Taliban leadership prohibited the militants from stopping the ambassadors' cars and entering empty embassy buildings.
Most countries have moved their diplomats from Kabul. The Russian embassy said that some of the personnel would be evacuated, but did not suspend the diplomatic mission.
Zhirnov, meanwhile, said the Taliban were protecting the Russian embassy and guaranteeing the safety of Russian diplomats. In general, the ambassador said that the situation in Kabul is stable.
The situation in Afghanistan has worsened since the United States announced the withdrawal of troops from the country in May this year. Taliban forces attacked government positions, captured all major cities, and then took control of the entire territory of the republic. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani resigned and left the country on Sunday.
