Historical opportunity appeared in direction of reaching peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, says US Ambassador

"A historical opportunity appeared in direction of reaching a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia," said US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mark Libby at an event dedicated to Independence Day of the US, Paralel.Az reports.

According to Ambassador, partnership between two countries has a remarkable history:

"Since Azerbaijan regained its independence, the United States has provided more than $1 billion to boost education and economic development, help internally displaced people affected by the conflict, and rid the country of deadly landmines. We are also looking for future-oriented partnerships. We wish for a deeper future partnership that ensures peace, progress and security for Azerbaijan and the region. This month, our Azerbaijani partners informed me that for the first time since the collapse of the Soviet Union, after the Russian troops left the territory of Azerbaijan a few weeks ago, there are no foreign troops on the territory of the country. At the same time, Azerbaijan and Armenia started border demarcation, held talks on the exchange of detained persons and openly stated that they are closer than ever to signing a peace agreement."
