Ukrainian General Staff chief Shaptala discharged for health reasons along with Zaluzhnyi
General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Lieutenant General Serhii Shaptala, former Chief of the General Staff, have been released from military duty for health reasons, Paralel.Az reports citing Ukrainski Pravda.
Ukrainski Pravda cited independent sources within the Defence Ministry as saying that Zaluzhnyi and Shaptala have been discharged based on the conclusion of a military medical board declaring them unfit for military service and have been removed from the military register.
On 7 March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the appointment of Zaluzhnyi as Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom.
Later, media reported that Zaluzhnyi underwent a military medical examination in the winter, before his appointment as ambassador to the United Kingdom, where he was found to be unfit for military service.
