Akbar Azad was arrested
South Turkish activist Akbar Azad was arrested and taken to an unknown location on August 9 when he went to court.
The human rights news agency HRA reported that Azad was arrested while driving to the Tehran Revolutionary Court of Baharistan to change his identity. The national activist was reportedly arrested after an investigator dismissed a court complaint to the executive branch.
The whereabouts and condition of the national activist are still unknown. However, human rights activists in the region believe that Akbar Azad was detained for 2 years and sentenced to 2 years in exile.
Akbar Azad, along with other activists for the rights of the Turkish language, including Alirza Farshi, Behnam Sheikh and Khamin Manafi Nadarli, was arrested during a ceremony marking International Mother Language Day in 2014.
