Russian border guards to leave checkpoints on Armenian-Iranian border from January 1 next year
From January 1, 2025, Russian border guards will be withdrew from the checkpoints located on the Armenian-Iranian border, Nazeli Baghdasaryan, press secretary of the Prime Minister of Armenia, said, Paralel.Az reports.
According to the press secretary, an agreement was reached between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the meeting held today in Moscow.
According to her, from January 1 next year, only Armenian border guards will serve at the checkpoints between Iran and Armenia.
The service along the Armenia-Iran and Armenia- Türkiye border lines will be jointly organized by Russian and Armenian border guards.
It should be noted that, after decades, the Border Service of the Russian Federal Security Service handed over the function of guarding the state border at the "Zvartnots" crossing point of Yerevan to the Armenian side on August 1 of this year.
