Egyptian, Jordanian FMs discuss Gaza situation, Red Sea security

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday held a meeting with his visiting Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi here on the developments in the Gaza Strip and the shipping security in the Red Sea, Paralel.Az reports citing Xinhua.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the two top diplomats exchanged opinions about the escalating Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, efforts aimed at reaching a ceasefire, and implementation of a key United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution demanding safe and unhindered humanitarian access across Gaza.

Shoukry said Egypt is willing to have more consultation and coordination with Jordan to confront common challenges and to find solutions to security crises in the region, according to the statement.

The UNSC resolution adopted Friday also requested the appointment of a senior UN coordinator to facilitate, coordinate, monitor, and verify the humanitarian nature of aid delivery from non-parties to the conflict in Gaza, and a mechanism to follow up on the entry of aid into the besieged enclave amid Israeli obstacles.

The two FMs also discussed the security of navigation in the Red Sea, an important route for international trade movement.
