Water level of Caspian Sea decreased by 114 cm in last 10 years

 

The water supply in the Volga river, which nourishes the Caspian Sea, has decreased, said Faig Mutallimov, Head of Environmental Policy division of The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Paralel.Az-Economics reports.

He said that in the last 10 years, the water level of the Caspian Sea has decreased by 114 cm: “The current situation not only negatively impact on the ecosystem of the Caspian Sea, but also on the operation of the ports. The process of creating a working group on the problem of decrease of the Caspian Sea level has been started in order to fight this problem. Sating that we are going to prevent this problem, this can be a bit mysterious. But I want to note that investigation on the preoblem is already underway by 5 Caspian Sea states.”
