The trial in the criminal case of Vugar Safarli postponed
The former head and colleagues of the now defunct Foundation for State Support for Media Development are on trial for embezzling millions of dollars.
The trial of the former executive director of the liquidated Fund for State Support for Media Development under the President of Azerbaijan Vugar Safarli and other defendants is scheduled for August 20.
The Baku Grave Crimes Court, chaired by Judge Azer Pashayev, considered the criminal case against the former executive director of the State Support Fund for Mass Media Development Vugar Safarli, as well as Binyamin Ismailov, Adalyat Valiyev, Nadir Mammadov and Bakhtiyar Fatullayev. Temkin Khalilov, Takhmina Yagubova, Valeks Orudzhev, Shahin Ibragimova and Namig Hajiyeva worked in various positions.
Safarli's lawyers filed a motion to change the measure of restraint to house arrest.
The petition to change the preventive measure was not granted.
What did the suspects do?
During the investigation, reasonable suspicions arose that Vugar Safarli and his colleagues abused their official powers, embezzling and embezzling 18.5 million manat of public funds.
In addition, all the defendants in the case were charged with violating the requirements of the legislation on public procurement, using public funds for other purposes, exceeding the volume and cost of construction work, knowingly entering inaccurate information in official documents, as well as $ 5.7 million. He is accused of stealing manats.
Based on the evidence collected, Vugar Safarli and others associated with him were charged with 179.4 (embezzlement, especially large-scale damage), 193-1.3.2 (legalization of large sums of money obtained by criminal means), 308.2 (abuse of power, entailing grave consequences).), 313 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan (forgery).
In this case, the Media Development Agency was recognized as the victim.
Note that Vugar Safarli worked as the head of the fund for 11 years and was fired on April 4, 2020.
