Roundtable on "Sustainable and Digital Middle Corridor and Beyond" was held at COP29

A ministerial roundtable on the theme "Sustainable and Digital Middle Corridor and Beyond" was held within the framework of COP29, Paralel.Az reports.

The roundtable took place within the framework of the COP29 Presidency, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan in cooperation with UNECE and UNESCAP.

Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev said that at this high-level roundtable, the digitalization of transport corridors is at the forefront of supporting sustainable development goals by strengthening global transit networks, reducing carbon emissions, increasing operational efficiency and creating sustainability in multiple transport models and supply chains across regions.

It was noted that over the past two decades, substantial reforms and investments have been directed at improving transport infrastructure along international corridors passing through Azerbaijan.

It was noted that before the recent geopolitical changes, Azerbaijan had already recognized the strategic potential of the Middle Corridor and had actively invested in important infrastructure, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway with a capacity of 5 million tons and the Baku International Maritime Trade.

R. Nabiyev emphasized that Azerbaijan has facilitated the movement of block trains from China via the Middle Corridor since the beginning of 2024. The minister said that more than 300 block trains are expected to pass through the territory of Azerbaijan by the end of this year.
