Speaker: Population has right to know about money entering Georgia for political influence
“The Georgian population has the right to be informed about the financial inflows into Georgia and the allocation of funds for political influence,” stated Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Paralel.Az reports citing Georgian Public Broadcaster.
According to the Speaker, transparency is the foundation for both the development within the country and relations with other countries.
“We should look at what prompted these decisions. The reason is that the Georgian population became interested in tracking the inflow and allocation of grants from countries like France, Great Britain, Poland, and Finland in Georgia. A reaction ensued. Are you interested? They said if you wanted our transparency, then we would stop financing. Such an attitude is regrettable.
Transparency is the foundation for both the development within the country and relations with other countries. Georgian people, like the French, Germans, Finnish, Americans, and British, have the right to be informed about the financial inflows into Georgia and the allocation of funds for political influence,” he said.
EU has frozen its support for Georgia from the European Peace Facility – EUR 30 million for 2024. On July 5, the US Department of State announced the indefinite postponement of the Noble Partner exercise in Georgia, originally scheduled for July 25 – August 6, 2024, as part of the US-Georgia relationship review.
