4 killed, 3 missing after boat capsizes in southern Tanzania

At least four farmers drowned and three others are missing after their boat capsized in a river in the Katavi region in southern Tanzania, a Tanzanian official said on Sunday night, Paralel.Az reports.

Mwanamvua Mrindoko, the Katavi regional commissioner, told Xinhua by telephone that the accident occurred on Friday evening. The boat, which was also carrying 10 bags of paddy, capsized in the Ukingwamizi River in Mlele district. Seven people managed to swim to safety.

Rescuers, led by the Tanzania Fire and Rescue Force, found the body of one farmer on Saturday, and three more bodies were recovered on Sunday, Mrindoko said.

"Rescuers are still searching for the three missing farmers," said Mrindoko, adding that the river was over-flooded due to ongoing heavy rains last month.
