Iranian media: Iran's President and his staff died in a helicopter crash
Iran's President Ibrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Huseyn Amir Abdullahian, Imam Juma of Tabriz, Ayatollah Ali Hashim, and Governor of East Azerbaijan Province Malik Rehmati died in a helicopter crash, Paralel.Az reports citing Iran's Mehr Agency.
President Raisi took part in the opening ceremony of the dam on the Iran-Azerbaijani border by helicopter on Sunday.
Iranian state television reported that the accident occurred as a result of a hard landing of Raisi's helicopter while returning from the region.
Foreign Minister Huseyn Amir Abdullahian, Imam Juma of Tabriz, Ayatollah Ali Hashim, and governor of East Azerbaijan province Malik Rehmati were also in the helicopter.
Search and rescue teams continued their work with difficulty due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Later, Turkey's "Akinci" unmanned aerial vehicle was involved in the search.
The remains of the crashed helicopter were found in a burnt state.
Iran's official media outlets have already painted their logos black as a sign of mourning.
