US Ambassador talks about Section 907
"We support the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mark W. Libby told journalists, Paralel.Az reports.
“Section 907 is the part of a law which was approved 30 years ago. I was not working in my current position 30 years ago. I cannot amend this law.
I can tell you that every year we think about whether it is necessary to waive “Section 907” to ensure some kind of security assistance, but it is still under considerartion" the diplomat said.
The Ambassador underlined that “Section 907” is not the only way to cooperate with Azerbaijan. “I still do not understand why this is incredibly pivotal. This is a small part in terms of the wide range of our relations, our interaction with Azerbaijan in all fields, cultural, economic, and even to some extent security cooperation.
According to Libby, Azerbaijan does not need the military support of the US: "Section 907 limits a number of military support types. I do not know whether Azerbaijan needs the military assistance of the US or not, probably not. This is an issue we must consider carefully in the context of our priorities. No decision has been made regarding the issue this year, however, we also have other works regarding Azerbaijan. We support the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. We also support the territorial integrity of Armenia. Supporting the territorial integrity has been our main principle since the beginning," the Ambassador added.
