Azerbaijani seismologists to conduct assessment of quake-hit region in Türkiye

 

On February 6, an online meeting was held on “February 6, 2023 Earthquakes and Engineering Panel” (“6 Şubat 2023 Depremleri ve Mühendislik Paneli”) with the participation of the representatives of Kocaeli University of the Republic of Türkiye regarding the earthquake that occured on February 6, 2023 in the Kahramanmaraş city of the Republic of Türkiye, Paralel.Az reports.

During the meeting, the General Director of Republican Seismological Survey Center of Azerbaijan (RSSC), professor Gurban Yetirmishli spoke about the gravimetric, magnetometric, engineering-seismic and macroseismic studies they conducted in April 2023 together with the Center's employees in the city of Kahramanmaraş, which suffered the most destruction in the quake-hit region of brother Türkiye, and the town of Pazarcık, which was the epicenter of the earthquake. During his speech, he also noted that the tension situation in the area was determined as a result of the research conducted by the specialists of the RSSC.

    Gurban Yetirmishli said that in connection with the construction works to be carried out in the future, the depth structure of these areas will be studied and the seismicity of the area will be assessed.
