Berlin hosted a farewell ceremony for German Chancellor Angela Merkel
As Paralel.az reports with reference to INK news, Merkel is expected to step down as head of the German government on December 8.
On December 2, Berlin hosted the Evening Dawn ceremony in honor of Angela Merkel's resignation from the post of German Chancellor. The event was organized by the Bundeswehr - the country's armed forces.
The ceremony marked a milestone ahead of Merkel's departure from government after 16 years in power. Officially, he will leave the post of chancellor next week - until December 8.
By the way, "Evening Dawn" is considered the highest sign of respect that a civilian can receive from the military. Its history dates back to the 16th century, but the German Chancellor did not receive this honor until 1998, when Helmut Kohl stepped down as head of the German government.
This time, the event began with a short performance by Merkel, after which the military band performed several pieces, including three pieces chosen by the hero.
It is expected that the new Chancellor of Germany will be the interim chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Olaf Scholz. For the past three years, she has served as vice chancellor and finance minister in the Merkel government. Formally, the new parliament must support his candidacy by December 8.
