Armenians hesitate to commission Gafan airport
Vahe Hakobyan: "The airport in Gafan is ready, but no one is responsible for the flight"
Vahe Hakobyan, candidate for the post of head of the Hayastan commission on economic issues, in his speech in parliament stated that no one is ready to take responsibility for opening flights from Gafan to Yerevan: “The airport has been renovated for three years,” Sputnik - Armenia reported. “I'll give you a figure - it cost 9 billion drams (about 18 million dollars) and an airplane. The airport is ready to go, but as a result of your indecisive policy, it has become a border. "
In his words, now no one is responsible for the flight between Gafan and Yerevan, the current government does not speak about this, no one remembers the construction of a new airport in Armenia since the 90s.
Back in January 2021, the Ombudsman of Armenia Arman Tatoyan stated that not only the Gafan airport, but also the road to Yerevan are in danger as a result of the harmonization of borders in the Syunik region.
Note that Gaf is separated from Yerevan by a 5-6-hour track. In Soviet times, an airport and a railway were built here. Since the early 1990s, the airport and the city of Gafan have come under fire from the Azerbaijani armed forces. Unexploded ordnance was found on the runway when a major overhaul began in 2017.
