Today, Uzbekistan held elections for the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) and for local kengashes (councils) of people's deputies, Paralel.Az reports.
Polling stations were open from 08:00 to 20:00 (GMT+5).
In these elections, 19.944 million voters were registered in the electronic voter list of the automated election management system, with an additional 165,631 voters registered abroad.
As of 17:00 (GMT+5), voter turnout for Uzbekistan's parliamentary elections stood at 71.52%.
Over 850 foreign and international observers, including missions from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), are monitoring the election process.
Five parties are participating in the elections: the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen – Uzbekistan Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic Party "Milliy Tiklanish," the Ecological Party, the People’s Democratic Party, and the Social Democratic Party "Adolat."
This year’s elections followed a mixed electoral system in accordance with the updated Constitution and national electoral legislation. Under this system, 75 members of the Legislative Chamber are elected in single-mandate constituencies using a majoritarian electoral system, while the remaining 75 members are elected through proportional representation based on party lists.
Another noteworthy aspect of this year’s elections is the complete digitalization of the process through the "E-Saylov" information system.
