Azerbaijan to host annual event of UN GlobE network
The activities of the prosecutor's office of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the field of combating crime, including corruption, which is one of its most dangerous manifestations, are being continued at the level of international cooperation, Prosecutor General's Office told Paralel.Az.
According to the report, within this framework, the 5th Plenary Meeting of the Global Operational Network of United Nations Anti-Corruption Bodies (GlobE) was held in Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China, on September 24-27 of this year.
At the event which was attended by more than 400 representatives of more than 100 countries of the world and more than 10 international organizations, Azerbaijan was represented by, Head of Organizational and Information Support Department of the Antı-Corruption General Directorate with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan Natig Eyvazov, and its senior prosecutor Aflatun Huseynov.
The work of the Plenary Meeting was continued with the High-Level Forum, country presentations, side meetings, and elections to the organization's governing body were held, as well as GlobE Network report for 2023, Strategic Plan for 2025-2027 and Beijing Agreement documents were discussed and approved.
Azerbaijani representatives, who gave a presentation in accordance with the theme of the event, referred to the national experience and talked about the contribution of informal mutual legal assistance to the preliminary investigation of a specific criminal case with an international organization.
Later, Azerbaijan’s representatives who spoke at the side event organized by the Anti-corruption network under the UN " Beijing Initiative for the Clean Silk Road" on the topic "Formation of a corruption-free environment that encourages the attraction of foreign investment in the countries that have joined the initiative", informed the participants about the work done to support economic reforms in Azerbaijan with anti-corruption measures in the direction of further strengthening the investment-oriented business environment, in this context, they brought examples of achievements such as the adoption of the Law on the Alat free economic zone, the fight against the legalization of property obtained through crime, and the renewal of the laws on public procurement in a content that fully meets international standards.
Also, Natig Eyvazov was appointed as a member of the management body as a result of the elections to the 15-member executive committee of this organization at the Plenary meeting of the GlobE network.
At the end of the event, a unanimous decision was made to hold the next - 6th Plenary Meeting of the UN Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Bodies (GlobE) in Azerbaijan in 2025.
