Flood levels have surpassed critical thresholds at multiple river measurement points in southern Poland’s Opole region, with the situation worsening as heavy rainfall continues, Paralel.Az reports citing TYP World.

By 5 a.m. on Saturday, water levels in several rivers in southwest Poland had exceeded alarm levels by over 100 cm forcing the evacuation of hundreds of residents.

Flood alerts remain in effect across southwest Poland. In Nysa County, emergency responders carried out nearly 200 interventions. Soldiers from the 171st Light Infantry Battalion are assisting with securing properties in affected towns, while temporary road closures and power outages have been reported in Nysa, Głuchołazy, and Otmuchów.

The Opole province is not alone in facing flood threats. Heavy rains have pounded central Europe, prompting flood warnings in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia and southern Germany. In Prague, authorities have erected flood barriers as the Vltava River is expected to peak Saturday night.

Prime Minister Petr Fiala has warned that some regions may experience flooding levels not seen in over 100 years.
