Death toll in residential building collapse in Russia rises to 10-UPDATED-1

 

The death toll from the partial collapse of a residential building in the Russian city of Nizhny Tagil has risen to ten, said the Ministry of Emergency Situations on Friday, Paralel.Az reports citing Xinhua.

The ministry said that rescuers have found ten bodies and fifteen people have been rescued from under the rubble.

Five people are reportedly in critical condition at hospital.

Local authorities have declared Aug. 3 as a mourning day for the victims of the tragedy.

According to the ministry, search and rescue operations are ongoing.

A gas explosion caused the death of four people in the Russian city of Nizhny Tagil, it was reported by The Ministry of Emergency Situations, Paralel.Az reports citing Fakti.bg.

"The search and rescue operation continues", the message said.

Two entrances to a five-story building collapsed Thursday after a gas explosion. As the head of the Ministry of Health, Mihail Murashko, announced earlier, 10 people have been hospitalized, and doctors assessed the condition of five victims as serious.

After the incident, a state of emergency was introduced in the Dzerzhinsky district. 70 residents were evacuated from the victim and the neighboring houses, and a center for temporary accommodation in a hotel was created for them.
The investigative committee initiates a criminal case regarding the performance of work or the provision of services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life and health of consumers.

For its part, the prosecutor's office started an inspection of the organization servicing the gas equipment in this residential building.
