US, Israel, Egypt likely to meet in Cairo next week
American, Egyptian and Israeli officials are scheduled to meet in Cairo next week to discuss the reopening of the Rafah crossing and establish a plan to secure the border between Egypt and Gaza, according to three US and Israeli officials, Paralel.Az reports citing Axios.
The US delegation, which will be headed by the senior director for the Middle East at the White House National Security Council Terry Wolf, aims to agree on a plan to reopen the crossing, as well as prevent Hamas from smuggling weapons into Gaza from Egypt and maintain peace between Israel and Egyp.
Axios added that the trilateral meeting was arranged after a phone call between President Biden and Egyptian President Abdul Fattah el-Sisi, which took place last Friday.
