Estonia supports Prime Minister Mark Rutte as head of NATO
Estonia supports the candidacy of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for the post of NATO Secretary General, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas wrote on X, Paralel.Az reports.
"For a strong NATO, we need to be clear-eyed on Russia, boost deterrence and defence spending, back Ukraine's membership, and geographic balance. I have discussed this in depth with Mark Rutteand he commits to these priorities. Estonia can back him for NATO's Secretary General", Kallas said.
Note that Kaja Kallas previously stated in her interviews that she was open to the post of NATO Secretary General, and stressed that the successor of Jens Stoltenberg, the NATO Secretary General, should be from a country that meets the alliance's defense spending targets. Kallas also noted that the next head of NATO should be from Eastern Europe.
