Poland to buy US missiles that can reach Russia, analyst says
Poland is set to buy JASSM air-to-ground missiles from the US that have the potential to reach targets inside Russia, former Polish Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief General Miroslaw Rozanski said in an interview with the news website Gazeta.pl, Paralel.Az reports.
"I see the greatest added value in JASSM missile systems with extended range," he said in comments on a recent visit by Polish President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk to Washington. "Our planes stationed in Laska, if equipped with these missiles, will need to fly no further than the Vistula to strike targets inside Belarus and Russia."
Rozanski said he meant Russia’s Kaliningrad Region and other regions.
On March 12, the US State Department approved the sale of over 1,700 missiles of various types to Poland. Earlier, US President Joe Biden said at a meeting with the Polish president and prime minister at the White House that Washington would provide the Eastern European country with a $2 billion loan for the purchase of 96 US-made Apache helicopters under the Foreign Military Financing program. An agreement was also reached to sell Poland more than 800 JASSM missiles.
