Turkish police detain 12 IS suspects

Turkish police detained at least 12 suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) group, who are allegedly involved in financial network and social media propaganda of the group, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Monday, Paralel.Az reports

The suspects were detained in Istanbul, the largest city of Türkiye, and the southern Hatay province, known as the crossing points of Syrians to the Turkish territory, Yerlikaya said on social media platform X.

Five suspects were foreign nationals, Yerlikaya said, without specifying their nationalities.

The suspects were allegedly active in the IS group, publishing videos in the online chat group "Firdevse Talip Those" and collecting money under the name of "infak" for the group, said the minister.

The Turkish government designated the IS as a terrorist organization in 2013, blaming it for a spate of deadly attacks in the country since 2015.

Last December, Turkish intelligence and security forces captured a top IS terrorist in charge of the group's finances in an operation in Türkiye's southeastern province of Mersin.
