Russian MFA does not consider Armenia's EAEU Chairmanship a threat for Moscow

"Despite the ambiguous statements of Yerevan's official representatives, Armenia receives significant dividends from membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)," the Spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova said as she answered the question "Amid the background of the tension of Moscow-Yerevan relations, does Russia see a danger in Armenia chairing the Eurasian Economic Union from 2024?" at a briefing she held today, Paralel.Az's Moscow correspondent reports.

According to her, within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, there is pragmatic mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and Armenia.

"Year after year, high increases are observed in Armenia's economic indicators. We see that Armenia receives significant dividends from membership in the Eurasian Economic Union. Despite the non unequivocal statements of the representatives of its Republic... Russia and Armenia, just like the other countries of the Union, establishes constructive and non-politicised dialogue. From January 1, the Chairmanship of the Eurasian Economic Union transfers to Armenia. During his speech at the Meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, the Prime Minister of this country (Armenia) declared that Yerevan has set itself the goal of completely fulfilling the tasks within the framework of the Union in the medium and long term perspective. We support out partners' such intentions which are directed to the streghtening and development of Eurasian Economic integration," Russian MFA Spokesperson stressed.
