Iranian FM to not attend UN Security Council meeting due to visa delay

“The U.S. delayed issuing visas to me and the rest of the Iranian delegation,” said Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir Abdullahian in his statement to journalists, Paralel.Az reports.

“The U.S. issued visas to me and to Iranian delegation this morning, therefore, attending to the United Nations Security Council meeting was practically impossible,” the Minister stressed.

He pointed out that Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi’s visit to Ankara this week was postponed due to the UN Security Council meeting on the situation in Gaza and the ceasefire process.

“The Foreign ministers of member countries and Foreign Ministers of some special countries such as Iran were invited to the United Nations Security Council meeting. Both me and my Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan were supposed to be in New York today. The first priority is the Security Council meeting. President Raisi and President Erdogan agreed on the visit to Türkiye in a few days during the phone call,” the Minister noted.
