US may approve Turkey's request for F-16 fighter jets

The United States can confirm Turkey's desire to purchase F-16 fighters to strengthen NATO's Black Sea allies, and promised to make every effort.
The parties held meetings in Ankara and Washington. The United States may approve Turkey's request for 40 Block 70 F-16 fighter jets and 80 Block 70 upgrades.
The United States previously sent an official notice to Turkey that it was excluded from the supply of the latest F-35 fighters due to Ankara's purchase of S-400 air defense systems from Russia. The US canceled a January 2007 joint memorandum on the F-35 with Turkey's seven remaining F-35 project partners, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia, Denmark, Canada and Norway. The Turkish President said the US offered his country to buy F-16 fighters after it was withdrawn from the F-35 supply program.
