Is the Gafan-Basarkechar road an interstate road?
Zardusht Alizade: "The road blocking is connected with the fact that the Armenians create road problems for the Azerbaijanis in Aghdar"
According to Armenian media, Azerbaijani soldiers closed the Gafan-Basarkechar road for more than a day. Gafa Mayor Gafork Parsyan explained the reason for the closure of the Gafan-Gorus road: “The Gafan-Gorus (Basarkechar) interstate road remains closed. Azerbaijanis do not demand anything concrete yet ”. This is complete nonsense. Negotiations are underway. the opening of the road was expected. Armenian and Russian border guards arrived at the scene ”.
First, the Gafan-Basarkechar road is not an interstate road with international status. This road connects only two regional centers of Armenia. True, part of the road from Iran to Yerevan also falls in this direction, but in fact the road passes through the territory of Azerbaijan. Presenting the Gafan-Basarkechar road as international, the Armenians want to exaggerate the importance of this issue. However, tensions along the entire border are growing day by day. On the one hand, the Armenian road in the direction of East Zangezur was blocked, and on the other hand, the Azerbaijani serviceman Jamil Babayev was detained by Russian peacekeepers. These two events complicated the situation. We turned to political scientist Zardusht Alizade with a request to comment on the situation. According to the political scientist, the closure of the road was caused by the fact that the Armenians created a road problem for Azerbaijanis in Agdar and prohibited the transportation of goods.
As for the detention of the Azerbaijani soldier by the Russian peacekeepers and the transfer of him to the Armenian police, I do not believe that the peacekeepers will take such a step. If this step is confirmed, then the peacekeepers openly incite the conflict. I think that if the criminal act of our soldier is not confirmed, he will be returned in the coming days. "
