Remains of ancient animals found in Dmanisi

An international team of researchers from Spain, Italy and Georgia has carried out excavations in Georgia. According to Russian media reports, the remains of ancient dogs were found during the excavations.
Not far from Dmanisi, the remains of the most ancient human ancestors, previously found in Africa, were found. They were named the Dmanisi hominids. In a new study published in Scientific Reports, scientists have provided evidence that ancient "wild dogs" lived with human ancestors 1.8 million years ago. The researchers described four skeletons and skulls of many dogs belonging to the genus Canis (Xenocyon) lycaonoides. It is an extinct wolf species that appeared in Asia millions of years ago and then migrated to Europe and Africa. It was noted that the weight of animals that are hunted in large herds is about 30 kilograms. The researchers stated that the limbs of C. lycaonoides are longer, stronger, and more elastic than those of modern dogs. They are also the oldest finds in Europe and the first in Dmanisi.
According to the report, the migration routes of ancient dogs and human ancestors passed through the territory of modern Georgia. The Hominids at that time "traveled" from Africa to Europe and Asia. On the other hand, ancient dogs moved south to the modern Middle East and Africa.
