Charles Michel explained how to achieve reconciliation between Azerbaijan and Armenia

The EU wants to raise four issues that need to be discussed in the short, medium and long term to create stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus.

According to GAXA, the President of the Council of Europe (CoE) Charles Michel said during a joint conference with acting Armenian Prime Minister Nicole Pashkinyan in Yerevan that Baku and Yerevan can compromise on four key issues to be resolved to achieve peace and stability in the region. Touching upon the situation in Karabakh, Michel said that the European Union is ready to assist in the work of the OSCE Minsk Group. "We see four issues that need to be discussed in the short, medium and long term to create stability and prosperity in the region. The first question is restrained rhetoric - you should refrain from aggressive words," said Michelle, who hopes this will happen. He said it was possible to "return prisoners" and move forward on maps of mined areas. The second question; Michel's idea is about the delimitation of borders. The politician expressed hope that this would be resolved through negotiations. "The third point is to discuss possible cooperation, especially in the field of transport," he said.

In the fourth point, Michel spoke about the "status of Karabakh" and the definition of peace. However, Baku has unequivocally expressed its views on this issue and does not intend to discuss this issue in this context. "If we are talking about the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, then there is no territorial unit called Nagorno-Karabakh in Azerbaijan. This word should not be used at all. There is no Nagorno-Karabakh, there is Karabakh," said President Ilham Aliyev. The Azerbaijani leader stressed that the status of Nagorno-Karabakh is not discussed. As for the peace agreement, Azerbaijan has repeatedly stated its readiness to sign it with Armenia. "I have repeatedly stated that we are ready to sign a peace agreement with Armenia. We are ready to start such work. But there is no official reaction from Armenia," he said at a meeting with the families of martyrs and veterans of the Karabakh war. The Azerbaijani side believes that the Karabakh conflict has been resolved and a peace agreement should be signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The parties must recognize each other's territorial integrity, recognize borders, and begin work on delimitation.
