Iran becomes a member of Shanghai Cooperation Organization

 

At a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on Monday, the Russian delegation called on Iran to become a member of this regional body.

Paralel.az according to the Russian delegation, at a meeting of foreign ministers in Dushanbe, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is associated with the prospect of expansion, and therefore Moscow wants a positive assessment of Iran's request to become a member of this organization.

The Russian representative noted that the membership process should be phased out: "it should include the provision of interests between the observer countries and the member states, including the parties to the dialogue". On July 13 and 14, a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held in Dushanbe, where traditionally issues related to the preparation for the SCO summit were discussed. Iran's accession to the SCO was put on the agenda of the summit.
