US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Earle Litzenberger notes Baku's contribution to ensuring international security, including in the fight against drug trafficking.
'The leadership of Azerbaijan is our reliable partner in the direction of ensuring international security. We know the danger of drugs for each country, and Azerbaijan has shown leadership in the fight against this international evil,' Amb. Litzenberger said at the opening of the 36th International Conference on Combating Drugs in Baku on Monday, Interfax reports.
According to him, the fight against drug trafficking is 'a fight against a deadly weapon that takes the lives of our loved ones and acquaintances.'
'Back in 2000, Azerbaijan joined the international coalition and sent its troops to Afghanistan to ensure stability. Baku also provided routes for cargo transportation to Afghanistan,' the ambassador stressed.
Litzenberger noted that the United States was interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan.
'Azerbaijan is an important partner of the United States in the fight against international terrorism and drug trafficking. Our partnership will only grow, we intend to create the most effective methods of combating drugs,' the diplomat said.
He also noted the growing role of Azerbaijan in the diversification of international energy and transport routes.
