Georgian Defence Minister Levan Izoria signed an agreement in Paris on the acquisition of air defence systems from France, the press-service of the military department informs.
As noted, the cooperation of the two countries 'in the air defence component enters the second stage.'
'Georgian Ministry of Defence has signed a new, very important contract with the French side, which provides for continued cooperation in this area,' the release says.
The document cites the words of the Georgian minister.
'The acquisition of air defence systems in France is a guarantee of the security of Georgia’s airspace,' he said.
According to him, the implementation of the contract on the acquisition of air defence systems 'will contribute to strengthening Georgia's security in the area of the air defence component.'
Earlier Azeri Daily wrote that the French company MBDA Systems will supply ASTER 30 SAMP/T and VL Mica air defence systems to Azerbaijan.
