International biathlon competition will not be held in Russia in 2020/21 and 2021/22, the press service of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) said on Wednesday, TASS reports.
The Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) was limited in its rights in December last year over doping violations by Russian athletes. RBU lost the rights to vote in the IBU Congress, to propose their candidates for IBU leadership positions and to hold international competitions in Russia. On September 7, IBU refused to reinstate RBU's full membership. In the current status, RBU can continue sending athletes to international competitions. The next IBU Congress will be held in Prague in 2020.
On Wednesday IBU announced the schedules for 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons with no Russian cities included. Competitions will be held in 17 countries. Two new stages will be included in the Biathlon World Cup competition series - in Estonia's Otepaa and Belarus' Minsk. The first stage of the 2020/21 Biathlon World Cup will be held in Finland's Kontiolahti on November 28, the last stage - in Norway's Oslo on March 21.
