Chief of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Elchin Guliyev received the Israeli delegation headed by the Minister of Defence, Avigdor Lieberman, Azeri Daily was informed by the press-service of the State Border Service.
At the meeting held in the enlarged format, the sides expressed satisfaction with the friendly ties and relations of the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Israel. Successful joint activities in the military-technical sphere and the security sphere were noted.
During the meeting, Elchin Guliyev told the members of the Israeli delegation about the current operational situation on the state borders of Azerbaijan, the continuing occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani territory by Armenia, that the occupied territories continue to be used for illegal purposes. As the general noted, this situation is the main threat to the security of borders.
The Israeli guests were informed about the reforms carried out in recent years in the State Service, as well as the results of the work to strengthen and modernise the material and technical base of the State Border Service.
The sides exchanged views on the processes, challenges and threats to border security in the region, prospects for further cooperation between the two countries were discussed, and the importance of continuing activities aimed at the successful development of bilateral relations was underscored.
