From October 31, Ataturk Airport in Istanbul will stop accepting passenger flights. The same day, a new, third airport will start operating in the city, the first flight from which will be made to Azerbaijan, the Turkish media reports.
The total area of the new airport is 76.5 million square metres. The terminal's area is about 1.6 million sq.m. The country's authorities have not yet announced its name.
From October 31, Ataturk Airport will accept only official, freight, private and governmental flights. In the future, the airport will completely stop its activities.
Sabiha Gokcen airport in Istanbul's Asian part will continue its work as usual.
