On 3 and 10 July, bloody crimes against statehood were committed in Ganja. In the course of the terrorist attacks, two policemen were killed. There are wounded, among them the Head of the Ganja Executive Authority Elmar Valiyev. This was stated by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev at a meeting with the participation of heads of law enforcement agencies, Azeri Daily Reports.
'This criminal group wanted to break stability in the country and frighten society. Commited bloody crimes were planned and carried out for this purpose. The bloody crimes in Ganja were committed under religious slogans, and this is a great crime against Islam. The Azerbaijani people always defended their religion, and the Azerbaijani state propagates Islamic values. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation highly appreciated the activities carried out by Azerbaijan in the dissemination of the values of Islamic civilisation. Mosques are being built on public money,' the head of state said.
Ilham Aliyev noted that those who try to tie bloody crimes to religion are not Muslims and they will all be punished.
'Criminals and those who stand behind them will not achieve their goal. The Azerbaijani state and people will never allow this. The criminal group that committed terrorist acts in Ganja has already been neutralised. And all those who are related to these crimes will be identified and punished. The relevant task has been set before law enforcement bodies,' the head of state said.
The head of state stressed that security is provided at the highest level in Azerbaijan.
'Azerbaijanis live in peaceful conditions. And we are doing everything in our power so that the people continue to live in peace and security. Azerbaijan continues to develop rapidly. But there are forces both outside and inside the country, which can not calmly perceive our successes. They commit provocations and conduct dirty campaigns against us. In particular, for many years, a negative campaign by foreign media was conducted against us. But all these attempts were unsuccessful. Then we were campaigned against by NGOs and human rights activists. The international authority of Azerbaijan is growing, and the last NATO summit in Brussels showed our authority in the world,' the head of state said.
Ilham Aliyev noted that the recent events in Ganja showed that the anti-Azerbaijani forces had no other methods than terror.
'But this will not work for them either. I repeat once again that all criminals will be identified and punished. For this we have the strength and resources. Some of the criminals have already been detained. The operative-investigative measures are continuing to identify all those involved in these bloody crimes. And I say with confidence that no one will escape responsibility,' he said.
