It is not the first time that Armenia disrupts the de-occupation of Karabakh. In 1999, it was a terrorist act inside the country's parliament, in 2018, it was an unexpected Maidan, which led to the resignation of Serzh Sargsyan and the arrival of Nikol Pashinyan.
Against this background, was it worth expecting a breakthrough at the talks between Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers, Elmar Mammadyarov and Zohrab Mnatsakanyan?
The answer is obvious: No. Armenia does not need successful negotiations on the Karabakh settlement, because they imply compromises, on which Yerevan is not ready to agree.
As KavkazPlus writes, interesting information was provided by a well-known Russian journalist Maxim Shevchenko, who visited the village of Jojug Marjanli of Jabrail district, which had been liberated from the Armenian occupation, as part of a delegation of Russian politicians and public figures.
First of all, Maxim Shevchenko clearly and unequivocally stressed the status of the lands of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenia.
'We went to the occupied areas. According to all norms of international law, Fuzuli, Lachin, Jabrail, Agdam and so on districts are the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan illegally occupied by Armenian armed forces with the support of the Russian Yeltsin regime in the early 1990s. Who will among Armenians say that it is not so, that this is the territory of Armenia? I read the records that 'this is our ancient land, we always lived there.' You know, let us leave this kind of talks. Armenian troops must leave the occupied regions of Azerbaijan, and, of course, there should be about a million Azerbaijanis returning there.
After that, Baku is ready to discuss the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, provided that Azerbaijani refugees return to Nagorno-Karabakh,' Maxim Shevchenko reminded.
And then the Russian analyst reported that there was an agreement on the de-occupation of these territories with the ex-President Serzh Sargsyan removed from power, but the Armenian 'maidan' prevented the implementation of the agreement.
If, after the actual coup d'état in Armenia, Russia stops any assistance to Armenia, it will only sharply strengthen American positions in the country. According to the publication, the United States has already subdued Armenia. 'Not to mention the fact that they received a 'fifth column' in the face of the hostile Armenian Diaspora living in Russia.'
It is clear that Serzh Sargsyan and his colleagues in the Republican Party of Armenia will now deny the existence of agreements on the beginning of de-occupation. You can understand them. After all, for them it will be equivalent to a death sentence. The new Armenian government has already taken the family of Sargsyan and his closest associates in hand, and if it turns out that there was an agreement on the de-occupation of Karabakh and Sargsyan intended to implement it, then the reprisal against the 'traitors' is simply inevitable.
However, the beginning of de-occupation of Karabakh after Serzh Sargsyan 'strengthened' in power as prime minister was probable, naturally, under the pressure of Russia and in no other way.
It is interesting that the analogous situation in Armenia was in 1999 on the eve of the terrorist attack inside the Armenian parliament. Then an agreement was reached with the then Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Karen Demirchyan and Premier Vazgen Sargsyan on the beginning of de-occupation.
But on October 27, 1999, terrorists broke into the parliament and shot both the above-mentioned Armenian leaders at point-blank range. As a result, de-occupation of Karabakh broke down, and the terrorist act actually 'cleared' the way to unlimited power for the 'Karabakh clan,' whose representative - Serzh Sargsyan was overthrown just recently.
Just as Armenian politicians start trying to take reasonable steps towards reconciliation with their neighbours, they are physically eliminated or removed from power.
KavkazPlus draws a conclusion on this issue: '...The State of Armenia itself is a terrorist state by nature. It was created by terrorists-dashnaks, it was ruled by terrorists, and now the authorities in it are in fact the same terrorists. They changed the owner, now they have become completely American puppets, but they did not change their terrorist essence.'
