Final statement of international conference on missing persons held in Baku released as UN document
The final statement of the international conference "Solving the problem of missing persons: supporting the right of families to know the truth" organized by the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons in Baku on October 2-3, 2024, has been published as an official document of the UN General Assembly and the Security Council, State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons told Paralel.Az.
It was noted that in the document, the participants of the international conference, guided by the Conventions for the Protection of War Victims, as well as relevant documents and resolutions of the UN General Assembly and the Security Council, including reminding the obligations of states under international humanitarian law, invite the parties of armed conflicts to take all possible measures to search for missing persons and to provide any information about their fate.
The document also invites international organizations to assist in determining the fate of missing persons and to enourage the establishment of a special mechanism to deal with the issue of missing persons during armed conflicts.
One of the main outcomes of the international conference held in Azerbaijan was the call to establish an "Annual Baku Dialogue" to discuss various aspects of the issue of missing persons. This is a clear example of the high appreciation given by the international community to Azerbaijan's efforts in resolving the problem of missing persons.
The State Commission will continue its activities to advance the issue of missing persons at the international level.
