Syrian president decrees general amnesty
Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad today issued a legislative decree granting pardon to most perpetrators of crimes committed before September 22, Paralel.Az reports citing Prensa Latina.
The amnesty, according to the President's Telegram channel, covers deserters and fugitives from the Army inside and outside the country, on condition that they turn themselves in within three to four months.
The decree also provides amnesty for all penalties except some that constitute a serious violation affecting society and the State, such as bribery, forgery, violation of public morality and some types of theft.
The amnesty excluded some minor crimes such as those stipulated in the Urbanization Law, economic violations, theft of electricity, use of fraudulent means to obtain communication services, violations of the Consumer Protection Law, currency exchange and damage to forests.
The Syrian president has now issued more than 14 pardons, all of which are part of his approach of forgiveness and social tolerance, and provide a new opportunity for the perpetrators to return to their normal lives.
