"Thoughts about persecution of any citizen for his political beliefs or opinions in Azerbaijan, criminal cases' being political-motivated about the persons, who presented themselves as journalists or law defenders are absolutely wrong and unacceptable," said Head of Press Service of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aykhan Hajizadeh, Paralel.Az reports.

Case of persons, detained regarding several criminal investigations such as treason, illegal financing some activities, illegal financial operations, etc., are conducted within the framework of relevant criminal-procedural legislation and the process is fully transparent.

Making calls to Azerbaijan to release accused persons instead of waiting for results of criminal cases and investigations, as well as court verdicts is clearly contrary to legal procedures, is an attempt of intervention to judicial authority and is contrary to values promoted by the European Union.

We note with regret that the indifference to cases such as the violation of fundamental rights and freedoms of people in several EU member states, the death of people arrested as a result of political persecution in prisons and in actions such as "yellow jackets", as well as the bloodshed of actions in New Caledonia, is a clear example of violation of double standards.

Several institutions of the European Union should put an end to provocations against Azerbaijan.
