Human rights defender from Bonaire: The Netherlands is taking away our right to speak in our own language
“Democratic changes occurring in any state should be welcomed, and people's rights to freedom and independence should be respected at the international level,” said human rights defender James Finis this at the international conference titled "Bonaire’s Pathway from Baku through United Nations General Assembly to Self-Determination" organized by the Baku Initiative Group and the Bonaire Movement for Human Rights and Change, Paralel.Az reports.
He said that as a result of the policy implemented by the Dutch people, the right of the people of Bonaire to speak in their own language is being taken away from them: "Organizing such a conference in Baku today shows that we are really fighting for independence. Why is the number of people on our island decreasing? Because our people are facing pressure and as a result they become immigrants. Our children are deprived of the right to education in their native language. The Dutch government is trying to take away the right to education in our mother tongue, which is one of our fundamental rights, and other fundamental rights.”
